Why “The Well?”
The Well Christian Counseling gets the name from two stories found in the Gospel of John.
The first “well” is seen in John 4, Jesus meeting the woman at Jacob’s Well. At this physical location Jesus (Who is the Wonderful Counselor (Is 6:9)) broke through gender biases, racial prejudices, and a shameful reputation to speak directly to the heart of this woman. She came for water to quench her physical thirst, but she left full of the living water because of her encounter with Christ. Her circumstances hadn’t changed, but she was a changed person. Then, she left her water pot behind and went back into town to tell others about Whom she met, encouraging them to go and see Him for themselves… at the well. One of our goals is to provide a location away from the stress of the world where we can come and sit with the Lord for a drink of Living Water and be changed.
The second “well” is in John 5, Jesus meeting the man who had been ill for 38 years. He finds the man at the pool of Bethesda (translated “House of Mercy”) by the Sheep Gate.** Jesus asks “Do you want to get well?”. Having been in his condition for decades, would the man know what to do if his circumstances were different and he was made well? Was he willing to be changed? He was willing and Christ was able! At Christ’s word he got up (healing), picked up his mat (testimony), and walked (obedience). This was so much more than just a physical healing; the man was truly and completely made well.
**Interestingly, some believe this was fed by the Gihon Spring, which is the only source of “living water” near Jerusalem. This spring would intermittently surge, filling the pool and “stirring up” the water. The sheep being brought to the temple for sacrifice would stop there to drink while entering through the Sheep Gate.
Jeff Sullo LPC, BCPCC, NCC
I grew up in Milford, CT. I began playing guitar in fourth grade as a way to strengthen my recently-broken arm and never stopped! Once I got to high school I was in a garage band. The bass player in the band, who was also my closest friend, introduced me to the Lord Jesus. The Lord saved me at age 17 during my senior year of high school.
In the following years, after several life-changing trials, I began to consider deeper issues regarding my life and walk with Christ. It was at this point that a card was given to me with Romans 15:13 written in it:
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
It was God’s grace that saw me through, and God’s hope that I wanted to spread. I enrolled in Messiah College where I earned my Master’s Degree in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling in 2014. Since then I have worked with clients in both secular and Christian agencies. I am board certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) and the International Board of Christian Care (IBCC). I have been trained in Emotion Focused Couples Therapy, and am also a Certified Facilitator of the SYMBIS Assessment (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts). I am also a Ramsey Solutions Master Financial Coach and a Certified Clinical Telemental Health Provider. Whether working with individuals, couples, or families, I take into consideration the family dynamics and attachment history. My style is relational, strengths based, and Christ centered.
I am married to an amazing woman and have four beautiful children, all of whom remind me about the love and hope of God on a daily basis!

“Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety” – Proverbs 11:14
Only you can answer this question, but here are a few facts to consider. Counseling is beneficial for all of us, especially when faced with difficulties. The role of the counselor is not to fix your problems or tell you what to do. Instead, the counselor is one who comes alongside as you work through the situation; whether it is relational problems, personal struggles, or internal mind battles that you deal with. Seeking counseling is not a sign of weakness or meant to be a “last resort.” On the contrary, the Bible calls those who seek counsel characteristics such as wise, victorious, and peaceful.

Christian counselors are licensed professionals who have been trained in the same programs as professionals in the secular field. However, they also believe in the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the all-sufficiency of the Bible. Therefore, Christian counselors strive to approach each client from a Biblical perspective while using effective therapy models.
